Network Connectivity

Ethernet (Wired)

College of Design, Technology Services recommends dedicated, wired ethernet ports for each permanently installed device (workstations, printers, copiers, etc) to ensure a reliable network connection. In most cases, Network Services performs jack activations for a fee of $100 per port (for non-Gigabit). In rare circumstances, some locations may require additional infrastructure to support extra ports. Technology Services can work with you to determine the best placement of new jacks, and to begin the process of requesting their installation from Network Services.

Wireless

Access to the University network over wireless is provided to University-affiliated individuals through the UO Secure network using DuckID authentication and to non-affiliated individuals through sponsorship on the UO Guest network. The majority of College of Design spaces feature complete wireless coverage, but you can verify availability in your area by checking the University’s Interactive Map. Due to security concerns, the use of personally-owned wireless routers on the University network is prohibited.

More information about campus wireless access can be found at https://it.uoregon.edu/internet

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Many College of Design and University resources are restricted to on-campus use only. The UO VPN client allows your computer to access these resources from off-campus by creating a secure connection over the internet that routes all traffic through the University network.
